COVID-19 continues to be a very large health threat so the Treasurer's Office is open to the public by appointment only. Appointments are available every day from 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM. We want to do our best to keep you, our team, and other people in the Administration Building safe and healthy. By using appointments, we limit the interaction between customers by eliminating lines and can ensure people can get in and out of the building as quickly as possible. Day Of Appointment Process 

One hour before your appointment time you will receive a reminder text with a link. Come to the Administration Building in Nevada and follow these steps:

  1. When you arrive click the link in your reminder text message to let us know you are here  --  If you do not have a smart phone, or clicked "No Mobile Phone" when you made your appointment, come into the lobby of the Administration Building five minutes before your appointment time. 
  2. We will call you into our office by sending you another text message. Once you receive that message come inside the Treasurer's Office
  3. You are REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK to enter the Administration Building. We will not begin your transaction if you do not have a mask on. Masks ARE PROVIDED at the front door if you need one  --  If you have a medical condition that excludes you from wearing a mask, you will need to complete your transaction through phone, email, mail, or dropbox
  4. Please bring all of your documentation to ensure your appointment goes as smoothly and quickly as possible

It is important to us that we maintain a safe environment for ALL of our customers and our team, so please consider cancelling or rescheduling your appointment if you feel sick.

Property Tax Announcements

First half Property Taxes were due on September 30, 2020. Second half property taxes are due on March 31, 2021, but are accepted at any point prior to then.

If you would like a receipt please provide a prepaid self addressed return envelope.

Motor Vehicle Announcements

You can renew your vehicle registrations online by going to, mail payments to our office at 900 6th St P.O. Box 498 Nevada, IA 50201,or use one of our multiple dropbox options available at the Story County Administration Building. Fees provided on the website do not include any penalty.

Please direct title transfer questions to At this time the best method is to include a photocopy of the front and back of the title, the bill of sale, and any relevant information to the transfer of the vehicle.
