The Animal Shelter will be closed to the public until further notice.  We will continue to do adoptions on approved applications with appointment.  

We will continue to offer services, but encourage people to call the Animal Shelter at 515-382-3338 with any and all questions, to help better serve you.

Responsibilities & Services

Story County Animal Control is charged with care and management animal issues within rural areas of Story County and areas that are in contract with Story County for their animal control needs. Animal Control aids in housing and care for abandoned and roaming domestic pets, animal neglect cases, as well as investigating bites and wildlife encounters with the citizens of Story County.

The Story County Animal Shelter is located just outside Nevada on Lincoln Highway at 975 W Lincoln Highway.

Monday noon to 4pm
Tuesday 11am to 4pm
Wednesday 11am to 4pm
Thursday 11am to 5pm
Friday 11am to 4pm
Saturday First of Each Month 11am to 3pm

Come see all the exciting changes that have happened at the shelter.  We have a new cat adoption room, new main office area, dog and cat meet and greet rooms, and fenced-in area outside where our dogs can run and play.
