Hickory Grove Lake Restoration- Project Update (April 2018)

Posted on April 23, 2018 at 12:40 PM by Erica Place

The timeline for anticipated lake drawdown has been moved back to after Labor Day weekend 2018.

The new timeline will allow for a full working season for construction activities in a dry lake bed throughout 2019. The original timeline was ambitious and called for a more aggressive schedule including a summer 2018 drawdown and a spring 2019 lake refill. The new schedule gives more time to seek options for removing sediment loads from the eastern portion of the lake, which was not included in the original scope of the lake restoration project.

Although this now means the lake will be down for the 2019 calendar year, we anticipate this gives the project the best outcome long term and also allows time for weather variability throughout construction. Hickory Grove Lake is a wonderful resource for Story County and means so much to so many people. We want to make sure we get the best possible product for the public and ensure a bright future for the lake and surrounding park. Additional project considerations being discussed are expanded jetties, a walleye brood rearing pond, island expansion and bridge access, and a completed trail around the lake.
