Overview
The Story County Commission of Veterans Affairs is a five-member commission.
1. Beth Hartmann, Commissioner: July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2024 (Ames)
Beth grew up in Winston, Missouri and attended college at Iowa State University. She majored in Architecture and was in the Naval ROTC program. Beth was commissioned as an ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps in 1989. In August 2009, Beth retired as a commander (O-5) and began her teaching career in the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering department at Iowa State University. She taught the first-year construction engineering course, project management for civil engineers, and the civil/construction capstone course. Beth was the co-chair of the Veterans and Military-Affiliated Advisory Committee at ISU from 2017-2020. She took a brief pause from teaching from summer 2020 through February 2021. Beth joined the Program for Women in Science and Engineering to develop and teach courses in leadership and professional development for women in STEM majors. She is married to Tim Hartmann, and together they have two children. They reside in Ames.
2. Amy Rosenberg, Commissioner: July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2024 (Nevada)
Amy grew up in Nevada and after high school spent four years in the U.S. Navy on board the Aircraft Carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln. During her enlistment she served as an Aviation Boatswain's mate working in the arresting gear. She completed a ten-month WestPac in 2003. Amy came back to Nevada after her enlistment, and she lives there now with her husband Nick and two daughters. She served as the Public Relations Officer for AMVETS Post 62 out of Cambridge for 6 years.
3. Nicolas Briseño, Commissioner: July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2022 (Ames)
Nic grew up in Manson, IA, graduating in 2001 and joining the Marine Corps Reserve. He served with Charlie Battery 1/14 out of Waterloo, IA through a deployment to Iraq 2005/2006 and then joined General Support Maintenance Company, Rock Island, IL through 2011. Nic currently resides in Ames, IA with his wife Tracy and three daughters and looks forward to working with the Veterans Commission in continued support of our Veterans.
4. Luke Vance, Commissioner: July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2022 (Sheldahl)
Luke enlisted in the US Army Reserves during high school and has been serving for 10 years, currently at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He has had one tour of duty in Iraq. As a lifelong resident of Sheldahl, Luke has a desire to help bridge the gap with younger Veterans in Story County.
