Story County Conference Board seeking to fill a Board of Review Vacancy
The Story County Conference Board is seeking to fill a vacancy. The Board of Review is a three person board comprised of Story County residents. The three members are appointed by the Story County Conference Board (Story County Board of Supervisors, City Mayors, and School Boards) for the purpose of reviewing assessments made by the County Assessor.
The vacancy to be filled needs to be an applicant who is a resident of Story County, excluding the City of Ames. The current vacancy needs to be filed by an individual who has a farm background plus experience in the real estate or construction field or a similar related area is preferred.
Members are responsible for the following duties:
1. This board hears appeals of any owner/taxpayer who feels their assessed value, classification or related exemptions are not correctly assessed or implemented as required by law.
2. This board consists of three members. One member must be a farmer, the other two members should have a background in the real estate or construction field or a similar related field. The term of a board of review member is for a staggered six year term.
3. Each individual must have knowledge of property values in the county by reason of their occupation.
4. The current vacancy needs to be filled by an individual who has experience in the farm/agricultural related field.
Meeting Schedule and Time Commitment:
Members meet on a regular basis in the month of May and possibly into June depending upon hearings. This board usually meets from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on days of the hearings in the County Assessor's conference room at the Story County Administration Building.
