The Story County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for its very first Junior Citizen’s Academy. The three hour session classes (9:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.) begin on Saturday, June 23, 2012 and continue on Saturday mornings for six weeks, with a break over the weekend following July 4th, 2012. Graduation will be held on August 4, 2012. In the Junior Citizen’s Academy, children ages 13-17 will learn about the Story County Sheriff’s Office and what it takes to provide law enforcement services to the citizens of Story County. The sessions include presentations from Administration, Support Services, Field Services and the Jail Division. Topics include patrol operations, investigations, firearm safety, hostage negotiations, drug investigation and much more. There is no cost to participate and each morning the students will be provided an 8:30 a.m. continental breakfast.

If you have a child between the ages of 13-17 who would be interested in attending our Junior Citizen’s Academy, please complete the attached application and return it to the Sheriff’s Office by no later than May 20, 2012. Class size is limited to 15 and seats fill up rather quickly.
