The Story County Environmental Health Department has temporarily suspended septic system site evaluations. The Environmental Health Director retired, and her replacement will be starting on July 26, 2021. Therefore, until further notice, septic construction application submittals must include a professional evaluator’s report (soils analysis). Upon receipt of the application, site evaluation report, and $150 fee, the department will complete a site check and issue the septic permit.
Septic alterations (replacing the tank or d-box) do not require a site evaluation. To obtain an alteration permit, simply submit the application and $25 fee. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please feel free to call 515-382-7240 with any questions.
