[ARCHIVED] Story County Sheriff's Office COVID-19 Response

Story County Sheriff’s Office COVID-19 Response

All of us at the Story County Sheriff’s Office understand the community’s concerns and frustrations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We are asking people do their part to help mitigate the spread of the virus, all while continuing to be good neighbors. Our first responders continue to work around the clock, as public safety is our priority.

The Story County Sheriff’s Office has been closed to the general public.  Business that cannot be conducted on-line, by mail or by phone will be done so by appointment only with the exception of attorney visits, bail bonds and warrant services.  The Story County jail has cancelled all family and friend visitation, all jail programing, and all jail classes inside the facility until April 1, 2020.  We will continue to monitor the situation and make changes accordingly.

In order to mitigate potential exposure of the virus to our deputies, and therefore limit the spread to other citizens, our dispatch center is asking additional questions when someone calls. When it is possible, Deputies are taking reports over the phone. If they need to meet with you in person, they may ask you to meet with them outside of your residence in the open air. Keeping social distance and limiting contact is an essential method of preventing infection.  You may see them wearing additional protective equipment in more situations. In addition, community policing and educational activities have been placed on hold.

You may apply for a weapon permit online at our website  During this time, all applicants are to send applications to the Story County Sheriff’s Office at the address listed below.

Sex offender registrants may call (515)382-7461 for their in-person verifications or registry updates.

All court documents for service may be mailed to the address listed below.

Again, we ask you to continue to be good neighbors, and we will do our part to provide the best public service to our communities. Check in with your loved ones and neighbors while people are isolated, be mindful of other’s needs, report suspicious activity, and be vigilant of scams that take advantage of people during times like this. We are proud to serve the citizens of Story County.

For all further inquiries, please call (515)382-7461.
