Spot brush spraying will begin early-August and continue through mid-September in northern 
Story County.
Ty Hamiel, Vegetation Management Biologist with Story County Conservation, said that Brush and Weed Control Specialists of Algona, IA have contracted with Story County to spot treat small trees and brush under 10 feet on the roadsides in La Fayette, Howard, Warren, Lincoln and Sherman townships.
“Certified applicators will be operating vehicles with sprayers in the Right of Way (ROW). Herbicides applied are specifically registered for the use in ROW,” Hamiel said.
Hamiel also said there are some exceptions during this process. Spraying will exclude brush that is taller than 10 feet or trees that cannot be effectively treated without causing damage outside of the ROW; such as trees in fence lines, or trees in back slopes directly in front of farmsteads. Spraying may also exclude spots adjacent to sensitive areas or specialty crops.
