Join Story County Conservation for a fall work day removing invasive honeysuckle and oriental bittersweet to improve the quality of habitat within this park, located just outside of Huxley.
We’ll meet at Christiansen Forest Preserve parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 9:00 a.m., before getting to work cutting these invasive plants. Volunteers will get to hear from Natural Resource Specialist, Brandon Clough, about a variety of recent conservation efforts used to manage this property – including the famous grazing goats—as well as future management plans. If we’re lucky, we may even get to see the goats in action!
No special skills are required for this event. Poison ivy is present at this park, so long sleeves and long pants are recommended, as well as sturdy boots/shoes. Gloves and tools will be provided, but please bring your own water bottle.
As always, we look forward to seeing our volunteer team present to make a difference improving Story County’s natural resources! Better yet, we look forward to visiting with our conservation-minded peers while tackling this project.
