  1. Beat the Blues Winter Marathon

    January 1, 2020 - March 1, 2020

    Complete a full marathon - 26 miles! - between January 1 and March 1, 2020. Walk, run, ski, snowshoe, or bike 26 miles outdoors at your own pace, when it works for you and your family. Or play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile. Record your mileage on the Mileage Log. Use #sccwintermarathon to share your photos and adventures!

  2. Northwoods Dog Sledding Adventure

    February 21, 2020, 7:00 AM - February 25, 2020, 5:00 PM @ Meeting at Jester Park Nature Center, traveling to Ely, Minnesota

    Have the adventure of a lifetime on this five-day trip to northern Minnesota. One full day will be spent dog sledding with extensively trained dogs and staff. Experienced guides will teach you how to harness your dogs, steer the sled, and lead our trip into the wilderness. The remaining days will provide opportunity to cross-country ski on groomed trails, explore the backwoods by snowshoe (instruction and equipment available), visit the International Wolf Center and watch the start of the annual WolfTrack Dogsled races. We will return each evening to a large family-style cabin. Pre-registration required.This trip is co-lead by Polk and Story County Conservation. Registration deadline January 20. Must be 21 and older.

    Join Iowa DNR, Story County Conservation, and Pheasants Forever for a FREE open house-style night at the Climbing Wall in the Lied Rec Center on campus. Learn about Central Iowa's outdoor recreational opportunities and future events that will beheld near Ames. While there, feel free to do some climbing and help yourself to FREE PIZZA.
