Collect prairie seed at Story County's hidden gem, Doolittle Prairie. We'll show you what to collect and provide information about the plants around you as you work. This family-friendly seed harvest is a great opportunity to learn more about the prairie and lend a helping hand. Registration is required. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. Please bring a full water bottle. Our top priority has been and will continue to be the health and well-being of the public and staff. Campfires have been bringing people together for centuries and have a very calming power. The also symbolize a community gathering place where folks are able to share experiences and knowledge. Join us as we tell stories and sing songs to celebrate the end of the day. Discover the mysteries of the dark at the park! Test your senses and try your hand at talking with the owls. This hike is not intended to scare but to excite your imagination! This free hike requires registration by 4pm on Wednesday, October 21.

Come learn about the ancient sport of archery. Using compound bows and target arrows we will discuss equipment, safety, and go through the process of shooting. After that, participants will practice their skills shooting at targets. This program is for ages 10 and up. All supplies provided! Fee of $5 is required with registration by 4pm on 10/27. The archery range is located on 255th Street on the south side of Hickory Grove lake. A map will be emailed to participants.

Take a stroll with others and appreciate the changing fall colors at Soper's Mill. We'll meet at 56364 170th Street, Ames. The hike will end in a picnic of whatever the hikers bring to share. Registering will help us plan. hike will be canceled if the weather is unsafe. Please leave your dog at home. This is led by an Outdoor Alliance of Story County volunteer.

Many nocturnal animals have eyes that reflect different colors at night. Challenge yourself to explore McFarland Park with a GPS and flashlight to figure out which animals are hiding in the woods simply by the color of their eye reflection! This is designed for families with kids ages 5 and up. *animals are not live, but simply reflective cutouts Register as a group.
