Beginning in December 2022, McFarland Lake's restoration was a very large project. We are excited to announce that all construction is now complete and the entire park is once again open to the public! The paved Touch-A-Life trail surrounding the lake has now re-opened.
The lake is currently empty and is in the process of refilling naturally. Once full, we will work together with Iowa Department of Natural Resources to create a fish stocking plan.
We are thrilled to see the trails have re-opened and can't wait to see all of our park users enjoying them once again!
We hope to have more in-depth information about the completed McFarland Lake Restoration Project published online soon, as well as details on what is yet to come. In the meantime, please watch for updates on our social media, join our email newsletters, or sign up for our free mailed quarterly newsletter, Prairie Horizons.
Have questions? Feel free to stop inside the Conservation Center at McFarland Park during business hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday) - we'd love to talk about this project!
