Story County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

The Story County Emergency Management Commission is coordinating the review and update of the Story County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This planning process is open to the public and we encourage the public to participate and provide input. The first meeting will be held on March 29, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM via Zoom and will discuss the benefits of updating the hazard mitigation plan, the project schedule, and all of the hazards that affect Story County, such as tornadoes, wildfire, floods, winter storms, hazardous materials, and more.

The public may request the Zoom link ahead of the meeting by contacting Story County Emergency Management Agency at storycntyiaem@storycountyiowa.gov  or the Story County Administration Building Public Meeting room will be open for individuals who do not have access to a computer or Zoom. The Zoom meeting will be broadcast at this location.

The existing hazard mitigation plan was developed in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 which requires all local governments and special districts to develop a plan to assess their risks to hazards and identify actions that can be taken in advance to reduce future losses.  An approved Hazard Mitigation Plan allows communities, school districts, and non-profit organizations access to federal pre- and post- disaster grant money for projects that may reduce or stop future impacts from natural and man-made disasters.
