Services available at the Human Services Center in Ames continue to be available by phone, email, and appointment as public access to that building remain limited.

Animal Shelter

We continue to do adoptions on approved application with appointment, and encourage people to call the Animal Shelter at 515-382-3338 with any and all questions.

Story County Conservation

56461 180th Street, Ames
The Conservation Center at McFarland Park is closed but all County parks are open to the public. Use of the Story County Conservation Center and indoor programming is following an approach adopted by the Story County Conservation Board. Staff are available by phone or email to provide information and assistance.

Covid Vaccine Update 2-1

COVID Vaccine Status Update from Story County Public Health

Week of February 22, 2021

Story County Public Health has been allocated 1,075 doses for the week of Feb. 22. Of these, approximately 500 doses will be used by Story County Public Health for the Tier 1 group (school staff, first responders) and rest of the allocation will be distributed to McFarland Clinic, Story County Medical Center, NESCO Family Medicine Clinic, UnityPoint Huxley, and Primary Health Care for people 65 and older. Iowa State University will also receive some to begin vaccinating campus daycare providers, who are covered under Tier 1. Some pharmacies will be receiving vaccine from state and federal sources. Please refer to the listings on Story County Public Health's vaccination updates page for more information about these organizations’ vaccine plans.
