The Board convenes their formal meeting for public hearings and approvals of claims at 10:00 AM each Tuesday morning. The public is invited and participation is encouraged for these meetings.


Overview

The Board of Supervisors is the administrative and legislative branch of the County, composed of three members. They are responsible for the following aspects of County business:

  • Approve bonds and reports
  • County budget administration
  • County policy administration
  • Economic development
  • Fill employee vacancies
  • Set county tax levy

The Board seeks gender balance on all Boards and Commissions and would like to encourage citizens who may be interested in serving on a Board or Commission to complete an application that can be kept on file.

Story County is currently accepting applications from persons interested in serving on the Story County Board of Health.

The Story County Board of Health has one vacancy to fill. This vacancy is for a 3-year term.

The Board of Health is a five-member board appointed by the Story County Board of Supervisors and has jurisdiction over public health matters within its designated geographic area according to Iowa Code chapter 137. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every other month at 2:00 pm at the Story County Administration Building, 900 6th Street, Nevada, IA 50201. All meetings of the Story County Board of Health are open to the public.

Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2019 

Story County is currently accepting applications from veterans interested in serving on the Story County Commission of Veteran’s Affairs.

The Commission of Veteran’s Affairs has two vacancies.  One vacancy is to fill an unexpired term ending June 30, 2020 and the other vacancy is for a full 3-year term ending June 30, 2021.

The Commission is a five-member commission appointed by the Story County Board of Supervisors and are members of the Iowa Association of County Commission Veteran Service Officers (IACCVSO).  The Commission of Veterans Affairs provides assistance with emergency basic needs to Story County veterans and/or their family members, who were discharged under Honorable Conditions. Story County Veterans Assistance Programs are funded by Story County along with an annual appropriation of $10,000 per year from our state legislators.  The Commission of Veteran’s Affairs meets monthly and meetings are open to the public.
