Development Regulations
Story County has adopted zoning and subdivision regulations in one document, officially called the Story County Land Development Regulations.  These regulations describe the zoning districts and types of uses allowable in each district.  The regulations also outline the standards that commercial and industrial uses must adhere to when development is proposed.  Identifed in the Land Development Regulations are the various types of subdivision requests that may be followed as well.

The floodplain regulations adopted by Story County are in a "stand-alone" ordinance adopted by the Story County Board of Supervisors.  First mapped by FEMA in 1986, Story County's floodplain management ordinance was most recently revised to increase the amount of "free-board" required of new and substantially-improved structures to 18" above base flood elevation.
