Auditor, Lucy Martin

Lucy Martin was elected as Auditor and Commissioner of Elections in 2012.  She began serving as Auditor in January of 2011 following her unanimous appointment to fill the vacant office.  Prior to her appointment, she was a Deputy Auditor.

Lucy is a graduate of Rice University (BA) and received her Masters of Public Administration from Columbia University in 1994.  Before moving to Iowa, she held supervisory positions in the New York City Mayor's Office of Management and Budget, overseeing units managing the operational and capital budgets for economic development, housing, buildings, ports, and planning.
In her twelve years with Story County, she has worked on a variety of committees, including the Real Estate and MAPS committees.  She served on both the Land Use & Rural Affairs and Transportation legislative steering committees through the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC).  She serves on ISAC's County Strategic Technology Advisory Resource (CoSTAR) committee.  She is member of the Iowa State Association of County Auditors (ISACA) and is the President of District I.  She is active in the local chapter of the League of Women Voters.

Lucy is SEAT certified, as are seven staff members.  SEAT is the Statewide Election Administration Training initiative developed by ISU Extension, the Secretary of State's Office, and ISACA.  SEAT provides guidance on federal and state election laws, administrative rules, and best procedures for all types of elections.  She is also a certified Precinct Election Official.

Lucy has been married to her husband, ISU associate professor David Hollander, for 18 years.  Their daughter, Sylvia Hollander, attends Ames High School.  Lucy, David and Sylvia recently convinced Grandma Martin to move to Ames and are enjoying the benefits of multi-generational living.

Assistant Auditor, Lisa Markley
Lisa is the Assistant Auditor in charge of finance. Lisa has been employed in this position since March of 1995. Her responsibilities include preparing the county budget, amending the budget as necessary, monthly, quarterly and annual budget status reporting, processing and payment of the county claims, managing the county payroll, grants management, and preparing the annual financial reports.

Prior to coming to Story County, Lisa worked at Nevada National Bank in Nevada for ten years as a Loan Officer and Compliance Officer. She and her husband Randy have four children and five grandchildren.

Deputy Auditor, Kevin Norris
Kevin oversees all the election functions of the Auditor's Office.  He began his public service career by serving for over twenty years as a full-time solider in the Iowa Army National Guard. During this period, Kevin’s duties included Unit Administration, Mobilization Readiness, Logistics, Unit Training and Recruiting. He participated in two combat deployments. The first was to the Persian Gulf for Operation Desert Storm in 1990, and the second was to Afghanistan in 2004 for Operation Enduring Freedom. Kevin retired from the military in 2005.

Kevin's career in county government began in Montgomery County where he served for two years as the Emergency Management Coordinator and then three years as a Deputy Auditor. Most recently, Kevin was the Financial Data Manager for Story County's Community Life Program (CLP).  

Kevin is a graduate of Bellevue University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He and his wife Angela have four children and three grandchildren.

Deputy Auditor, Julie Erickson
Julie joined the Auditor's Office in February of 2015.  Her public service career began in the Story County's Sheriff Office over a quarter of a century ago.  She then moved on to work for the City of Ames in a variety of capacities.  Julie's responsibilities include overseeing all real estate functions of the Auditor's Office, including staff maintenance of property records and the county's digital maps; preparing mandated reports (valuation report, annual tax list, state credits and exemptions); reviewing annexations and subdivisions; maintaining and monitoring tax increment finance (TIF) districts; and reviewing and processing all of the county's tax authorities' budgets as part of the levy process.

A lifelong resident of Story County, Julie is, nevertheless, a Hawkeye fan.  She and her husband, Don, have two grown daughters. They reside in Cambridge where they are actively engaged in their church and the Cambridge Historical Association.  In their free time, they enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Administrative Assistant II, Chris Andringa
Chris joined the Auditor’s office in October of 2013 after serving as a technician for the 2012 General and 2013 School elections. His responsibilities include voter registration, election equipment maintenance and training, and other duties related to election preparation, implementation and processing. A native of Sheldon, Iowa, he has been a Story County resident since 1996. In his free time, he works as a statistician and/or public address announcer for several Iowa State University athletics teams.

Administrative Assistant II, Michelle Bellile
Shelly is responsible for the Board of Supervisor minutes on a weekly basis, along with preparing the agenda, following up on documentation, and general office work including helping with elections and accounting. Shelly and her husband, Steve, live in Nevada and have four kids.

Real Estate Technician, Patti Hilleman
Patti has been in the Story County Auditor's Office since March 1995. Patti was born in upstate New York, grew up in the state of Maryland, graduated from ISU in 1975 and makes State Center her home. Patti learned the ropes in Marshall County working for the Marshalltown City Assessor, Marshall County Auditor and Marshall County Treasurer. After taking some time off to have three daughters, Patti returned to county government in 1991. Patti is responsible for name changes on tax records including the plat maps and transfer books.

Payroll/Accounts Specialist, Kristy Macki
Kristy is responsible for the county payroll, inventory and depreciation for all departments, and assisting the assistant auditor with the paying of county claims.

Kristy joined the Auditor's Office in 2010.  She is a graduate of ISU and is a proud Ballard parent. She and her husband Michael live in Cambridge with their four children.

Administrative Assistant II, Bre Van Sickle
Bre joined the Auditor’s Office in April of 2014.  Her responsibilities include both property records and elections.  Our utility player, Bre is the public’s first point of contact, answering inquiries from citizens, county personnel and other governmental entities.   She was born in Story County, grew up in rural Nevada, and graduated from Iowa State University.  She currently lives in Nevada with her significant other, Marty, and their baby boy.

Mapping Technician, Scott Wall
Scott started working for Story County in July 1990. He maintains the county's plat maps, adding new subdivisions and making other changes to property lines as land is bought and sold. These maps serve as the base for the Story County Geographic Information System and can be viewed at the County Assessor's and Ames City Assessor's web sites. Scott is also the Story County Drainage District clerk, taking minutes at drainage district meetings and maintaining the county's drainage district records.
