Social Media
The Story County Sheriff's Office began using the social network site Nixle to disseminate information to the public. Nixle is a standardized, secure, and certified communication platform for local police departments, municipalities and their agencies to communicate important, neighborhood-level information to the residents of their communities. Users register with their address, phone number, and email, which allow the system to recognize their local law enforcement agency and pass on relevant information to them as it is posted by their recognized local law enforcement agency.

The Story County Sheriff's Office plans to use Nixle to inform citizens on public safety issues including severe weather warnings, major traffic accidents, and other events having impact on communities. It will also be utilized to notify the public of happenings at the Sheriff's Office such as future Citizen's Academies and community policing events.

Get Involved
Once registered, citizens will receive messages from the Sheriff's Office when events and happenings are affecting their local area. Anyone needing assistance with registering may contact Nicolas Briseno at (515) 382-7477.

Question regarding the Sheriff's Office use of Nixle may be directed to Capt. Barry M. Thomas. He can be reached by phone at (515) 382-7528.
