Emergency management protects lives and property by integrating response partners’ disaster preparation, response and recovery efforts across Story County and with state and federal agencies.  We are committed to working with your elected officials to reduce the risk of natural and man-made disasters in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

Register for Story County Iowa Alerts

Story County Iowa Alerts has been upgraded with new features such as severe weather alerts from the National Weather Service. If you still have a published landline phone, that phone will be automatically registered to receive basic emergency alerts. If you sign up online through the link below, you can register your whole family in one place and select specific alerts you want to receive. If you were registered for Story County Iowa Alerts prior to July 1, 2021, you will need to register again with the link below.

Storm and Damage Reports

Information you report during and immediately after a severe storm can provide Emergency Management the situational awareness we need to get the right resources where they are needed.  If you need immediate assistance, call 911.  Otherwise, the link below takes you to a simple online form so you can tell us about storm damages to your neighborhood or to your property. This information will be used to help the National Weather Service, first responders, and community leaders understand the impacts of these storms.  The information you provide is very valuable, please take a few minutes to let us know about your damages.

Services

Story County Emergency Management shall assist public officials, emergency responders, schools, hospitals, industry and the public to promote emergency preparedness, assist with the coordination of disaster response and recovery operations and will encourage mitigation efforts in all jurisdictions to ensure the safety and welfare of the residents of Story County, before, during, and after a disaster or large scale emergency.
