Combine Science and Exercise to Get Your Kids Outside and Learning!
Download and print the Trail Tracks Detective Booklet, then visit Robison Wildlife Acres, Christiansen Forest Preserve, Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor, West Peterson Park, or McFarland Park (or all five!) and follow the signs with animal track clues. Answer questions along the way to solve the animal track mystery. This tracking activity will be available in the parks through February.
January 1, 2021 - March 1, 2021 @ Wherever you can get outside!
Challenge yourself to complete a full marathon -- 26 miles! -- between January 1 and March 2. Walk, run, ski, snowshoe, or bike 26 miles outdoors at your own pace, when it works for you and your family. Or play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile. Record your mileage on the Mileage Log, available for pick up at McFarland Park or dowload at http://bit.ly/SCCWinterMarathon2021. Turn in your completed log to win a discount on Story County Conservation online registrations or rentals.
February 10, 2021, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Zoom Program
Learn to identify birds you might find in your backyard or local park in preparation for the Great Backyard Bird Count! The GBBC is February 12-15, and only requires 15 minutes of bird watching before sharing your bird count online. This is a great way to get involved with a community science project from the comfort of your home. These programs are free, but registration is required by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 8. Registrants will be emailed the zoom link prior to the program date.
