  1. Trail Tracks Detectives

    December 7, 2020 - February 23, 2021 @ McFarland Park, Christiansen Forest Preserve, Robison Wildlife Acres, Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor, and West Peterson Park

    Combine Science and Exercise to Get Your Kids Outside and Learning! Download and print the Trail Tracks Detective Booklet, then visit Robison Wildlife Acres, Christiansen Forest Preserve, Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor, West Peterson Park, or McFarland Park (or all five!) and follow the signs with animal track clues. Answer questions along the way to solve the animal track mystery. This tracking activity will be available in the parks through February.

  2. Winter Marathon

    January 1, 2021 - March 1, 2021 @ Wherever you can get outside!

    Challenge yourself to complete a full marathon -- 26 miles! -- between January 1 and March 2. Walk, run, ski, snowshoe, or bike 26 miles outdoors at your own pace, when it works for you and your family. Or play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile. Record your mileage on the Mileage Log, available for pick up at McFarland Park or dowload at Turn in your completed log to win a discount on Story County Conservation online registrations or rentals.

  3. Winter Hike with Outdoor Alliance of Story County

    January 7, 2021, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Ronald "Dick" Jordan Family Wildlife Area

    Get out of the house with other outdoor enthusiasts and explore local public areas this winter. Hikes begin at 1:30pm and are expected to last no more than two hours. The hikes may very from good exercise to a social stroll and will end with snacks and beverages (bring your own). Cold, wind, snow, rain, and ice are all possible! Hikes will go on as long as the roads are safe to drive. This hikes are free but registration is required by 4pm on the Tuesday prior to each hike. Contact the Outdoor Alliance of Story County with questions. In response to the ongoing development of COVID-19, Story County Conservation program attendees 2 years of age and older MUST wear a mask at all times and MUST maintain at least a 6 foot distance from non-household members. Pre-registration will be required when group size needs to be limited due to the facility or location.
