August 22, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Doolittle Prairie
Join Dr. Thomas Rosburg on monthly prairie walks at the largest prairie remnant in Story County. See rare and common prairie flora that change each month and learn about the history and ecology of central Iowa prairies.
Long pants, sturdy shoes, and bug spray are recommended. Walks are family-friendly but not stroller-friendly. Walks will be canceled in the event of inclement weather (thunderstorms). These walks are free, and no registration is required.
August 24, 2019, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ McFarland Park
Help keep our rivers clean by joining us for a paddling clean-up event. Canoes, life jackets (required), and paddles are provided as well as refreshments from the Outdoor Alliance of Story County. Experienced leaders from the Skunk River Paddlers will guide the way as we hunt for trash and debris while floating along. We'll enjoy both the camaraderie and satisfaction of a cleanup - even to the point of being "disappointed" if there's little trash to be found!
Be prepared to find some larger items such as tires or remnants of old cars. If river levels are low (or if you fill your canoe with garbage!) you may have to drag your boat for a bit. Some paddling experience is preferred. We will do our best to pair paddlers based on experience level.
We will meet at McFarland Park and carpool to the river. More information and registration can be found here: http://cerv.is/m?0342x180
August 25, 2019, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ McFarland Park
Join Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR) for an afternoon all about our feathered friends! Rehabilitated birds will be returned to the wild. Save the date and watch for more details!
August 29, 2019, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM @ Conservation Center
Join a naturalist and discover the amazing survival strategies of camouflage. We will search the woods and prairie for camouflaged animals and create and hide some critters of our own! This program is for children ages 5 and up plus their adult. Participants must be dressed to go and explore. Feel free to bring snacks and water if desired.
