The Story County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment. These openings are due to a recently enacted change in State law requiring that all members of the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment reside in the unincorporated (rural) area of the county.
The Story County Planning & Zoning Commission reviews and makes recommendations on proposed development applications for the unincorporated area of the county. Types of cases include proposals to rezone from one zoning district to another; proposals to subdivide land for development; and conditional use permit applications. The Commission also makes recommendations on amendments to the zoning and other land development regulations, and on the Cornerstone to Capstone (C2C) Comprehensive Plan. The Board of Adjustment (BOA) hears and decides on appeals for variances for proposed improvements which do not meet County’s zoning regulations. The BOA also hears and decides on Conditional Use Permits and on appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decision where an error of law is alleged in the decision.
Applicants for these openings must be eligible electors and reside outside of city limits in rural, unincorporated Story County.
