Iowa Veteran’s Home – Donation Drop Off

Story County Treasurer, Ted Rasmusson, is happy to announce his office is working in coordination with Story County Veteran Affairs on their annual donation drive in support of the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. The Iowa Veteran’s Home provides residency to over 500 veterans and/or their spouses, including 35 World War II, 59 Korean War, and 239 Vietnam veterans.

Citizens wanting to support the Veteran’s home with donations can drop them off in the Treasurer’s Office in Nevada or at the Story County Veteran’s Affairs Office in the Human Services Center in Ames at 126 S. Kellogg Ave. The items the Veteran’s Home is currently in need of include: food, personal care, clothing, and craft/recreation items.

Food items include, but are not limited to: candy bars, cans or bottles of soda, cake mixes, etc. Please ensure that the “Use By” date is after February 2020. Personal Care items include, but are not limited to: men’s and women’s body wash & shampoo, disposable razors, wet wipes, floss, toothbrushes, tooth paste, Q-tips, mouthwash, deodorant, razors, and lotion.  Travel Size Items are not accepted.

Men’s and women’s clothing items include, but are not limited to: long sleeved undershirts, sweatpants, tee shirts, underwear, socks, tennis shoes, sweatshirts, and coats/jackets. All clothing items must be new. Craft and recreation items could include: adult coloring books, model kits, magazines, playing cards, batteries, blankets, towels, DVDs, books, bird seed, puzzles, and Forever postage stamps.

Monetary gifts are accepted and can be directed to specific funds, including IVH Memorial Fund, IVH Recreation Fund, IVH Courtyard Remodel Fund, or The Christmas Fund.

All donated items need to be brought to the Story County Treasurer’s Office by 5:00 PM Wednesday, December 11th to ensure timely deliver to the Veterans Home. The Treasurer’s Office would like to thank everyone for their support of this great cause.
